The airline said it will slash more 1150 employees from its payroll after making 3,500 redundancies from the total of 10,000 employees it had at the start of the year.

The airline said in a statement that there was no option other than cutting cost in order to survive until travel returns in full flow. Air Carriers around the globe have been cutting cost through lay-offs, as they see a prospect in which fewer people travel, and fewer planes are able to fly.
Transatlantic flying, which is core to Virgin Atlantic’s business, was hit badly after the US-UK travel reduced. The company said that this year was most difficult ever for the Virgin Atlantic and the company, unfortunately, have to take a further step to ensure it comes out of this catastrophe. Virgin Atlantic will start 45-day discussion period with unions on Friday.
The carrier said in order to reduce crew redundancies, the company is planning to initiate a voluntary, company-financed leave plan for 600 crewmembers when the government-backed scheme closes next month.
Meanwhile, Pilots union Balpa said it will be a tragedy if pilot loses their job during this testing period and simply hoped to escape pilot layings-off. Balpa said it will do all in their power to ensure that.
