Tui is set to refund its customers amid COVID-19 lockdown

Tui has vowed to pay the refunds in the backlog in next couple of weeks following a probe by The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) of UK.

The CMA had been complained by thousands of customers after waiting many weeks for their due payments.

Usually, all the paybacks should be completed within 2 weeks’ time. This year Holidays plans were almost ended by the coronavirus pandemic, and postponements over refunds from the travel companies added to annoyance.

After the Competition authority enquiry, travel giant announced to clear unpaid refunds by 30 September.

The agreement includes all of Tui UK’s various businesses that deals with package holidays, like Marella Cruises, Crystal Ski, Crystal, Tui Scene, Tui Lakes and Mountains, and Skytours.

Meanwhile, Unhappy customers who were forced to take Refund Credit Notes will also be offered cash refund instead, within the same period of time.

TUI said in a statement that It has been a testing time for the whole travel industry. Earlier in the summer, the company said it would close down 166 High Street stores in the UK and Ireland. Bookings dropped 81% for the summer and were 40% down for a scaled-back winter programme.

Nevertheless, bookings are quite optimistic for next year as holidaymakers are hoping for the best about easing of COVID-19 lockdown.
