American Airlines (AAL), Mastercard (MA) Rose For Better Results, Whirlpool (WHR) Took A Deeper Dive

American Airlines Group Inc (AAL) risen by +9.3% to $18.1 on Thursday. AAL is currently up strongly, supported by Reddit’s U.S. stockbrokers, while outbreaks are emulating GameStop, AMC Entertainment, and others. Although the company posted better-than-expected results in the fourth quarter, it is primarily benefiting from the presence of its name on the WallStreetBets forum of Reddit, the American stockbrokers’ social network, which has been the topic of a lot of talk in recent days. The air carrier posted revenues of $4.03 billion in the last three months of 2020, down 64 percent but above consensus of $3.86 billion, while its net loss was $2.2 billion (adjusted EPS of -$3.86 vs. -$4.11 consensus). Capacity has decreased by 52.7%. In the fourth quarter, the company burned another $30 million a day. In the first quarter, the largest U.S. airline expects revenues to fall by another 60-65 percent, with capacity down about 45 percent. The quarter is expected to end with roughly $15 billion in cash.

The company posted an adjusted income of $1.6 billion, or $1.64 per share, for the fourth quarter, compared to $2 billion a year earlier. The consensus was an EPS of $1.51. With the adverse volume impact, sales decreased by 7 percent to $4.1 billion. The consensus was an income of $4 billion.

Whirlpool Corporation (WHR) took deeper dive of -8.38% to end the session at $194.6. The U.S. home-appliances manufacturer exceeded earnings and revenue expectations for the reported quarter. The group reported adjusted earnings per share of $6.64 in the fiscal fourth quarter, compared to a consensus of close to $6.3. The EPS a year earlier was $4.91. In the December period, the Maytag and KitchenAid group posted quarterly revenue of $5.8 billion, up from $5.4 billion a year earlier and $5.6 billion consensuses. The group anticipates a GAAP EPS ranging from $17.8 to $18.8 for the year and working capital of one billion or more. Annual adjusted EPS, compared to a consensus of $19.2, is expected to be between $19 and $20.
